Machen: Viaduct over the Rhymney

This linoprint is part of a series of prints inspired by the landscape around Machen and the village itself. Machen is located near Caerphilly in the Mid Glamorgan district of South Wales with its many remains of the old coal mining industry. The landscape is still criss-crossed with tram embankments and viaducts over the rivers coming down from the mountains further north. Himalayan balsam often chokes the damp river banks – I have put them in the foreground of this print.
