Exhibition: Kirriemuir, Angus

The Wendy House Pop Up Venue in Kirriemuir is hosting a Summer Fine Art Exhibition with work of more than 20 local artists. I have submitted one of my clay sculptures. The exhibition organisers will donate 10% of the sales proceeds to The Teapot Trust, a Scottish charity which provides art therapy to chronically ill children.
When you visit the show, make time for a walk through this picturesque town with its characteristic sandstone buildings, some of which house inviting cafés!

Exhibition: Ruthven Music Festival 2017

I am grateful to renowned artist Frances Law who invited me to add a colourful accent to Ruthven Community Hall, newly refurbished for this year’s Ruthven Music Festival on the weekend of June 9 – 11. The concert audience could see paintings by Frances Law, Jonathan Hood and myself on the walls of the lovely intimate venue, at one time the village church of Ruthven in Angus.

Printmaking: screenprinting on clay

A few days ago I started a collaborative project together with ceramicist Jenny Charles in Bridge of Tilt, Highland Perthshire. We decorate shallow bowls with a screenprinted design. Jenny produces round clay slabs which she later shapes into bowls, using a mould. I built a small screenprinting frame and created a design which we print onto the damp clay slabs, using ready-mixed underglaze. Not until after bisque firing the bowls will we know whether we got everything right.

Printmaking: linoprint

I have made a new linoprint, called “My Bicycle”. It honours Grant Murdoch of the Coupar Angus Cycling Hub who spent two weeks cycling around Scotland in April, covering 1,500 miles in order to raise funds for a cycle training pump track at Larghan Park in Coupar Angus.
Original prints and greeting cards of “My Bicycle” will be for sale at another fundraising event, a coffee morning in Talbot Hall on Trades Lane Coupar Angus, 10am – 12 noon. A percentage of the sales price goes towards the pump track.

Drawing: mixed media

This mixed media drawing was on display at the 10th Anniversary Exhibition of Perthshire Open Studios in Perth Civic Hall. The exhibition was part of the inaugural Platform Festival, a week-long celebration of contemporary art and culture across Perth & Kinross at the end of March 2017.

The Second of Winter Solstice

The drawing was inspired by a friend’s poem about his vision of winter solstice:
“on that day creatures living under rocks crawl to sit on long stems of the moon flower” […]
“all red turns pink takes a breather and returns to green and all shall be well for one second”.
